Here is a message I shared with my friends.
De pic design seems delegated to the big Tier 1 transceiver company.
Please realize, that the materials and all the IP surrounding Lightwave’s materials and the IP for incumbent modulators using Lightwaves materials are LWLG proprietary . Of course there is still the opportunity to sell single modulators ( via AMF) for all kind of other verticals.
Having gone through the complete device development process up and including the foundry, means Lightwave can assist the transceiver- device companies in the integration into their design and manufacturing process and as a result can sign technical assistance contracts and collect engineering fees.
LWLG went through this complete product development process itself, they did it!
It means material sales and license fees and possibly technical assistance fees. The business model remains in tact. The approach has changed. I am sure that this well get revenue in earlier and nobody can forbid LWLG to stop the work on the 4x 200G modulator and up.
In other words LWLG returns to volume and and low hanging fruit/ revenue first.
Let us not make it too dramatic. It’s a correct management decision given the circumstances. The ultimate strategy and business model remain largely the same. The controversial stuff is put backward for the time being. Given the urgency in the industry for our solutions it may well be we see deals in the next few weeks. Optimistic as always.
