matty, your belief that the scientists would have left or been gone if they couldn't get the PIC ready after 2 1/2 years is something I don't agree with.

It's extremely difficult. It's a small group. They have made progress - getting a single lane to work and be demonstrated.

This maybe realistically should take 100,000 man hours to get to work. We don't know what is reasonable here. Dr Lebby claimed they are still within reasonable bounds for something this difficult.

The problem is we don't know if they are almost there, or not almost there.

I find it hard to imagine that if they were almost there Dr Lebby wouldn't be retained. Was he hired only to be a deal maker? No. He's the CEO. If they were on the brink of such a major breakthrough does it really make sense to oust him ? Why didn't they oust Atkeim? Why didn't they just hire Yves to take over the deal making but keep Dr Lebby in some other capacity?

If the PIC really is almost there then there would have been no need for any ousting at all -- all they would have had to to is demonstrate a working 4 lane PIC and all would be forgiven by shareholders willing to wait a litle longer.

Taking that into account, Dr Lebby's departure is best explained by the idea that the PIC is not almost there, and that gave Marcelli a viable reason to have him replaced in order to save his own hide:After his unconscionable "high level" phone call 'leak' about near certainty of multiple major deals by year end, if the PIC was still not close and IF Dr Lebby wasn't ousted there was going to be a major outcry for Marcelli to be ousted. In fact that's really where the sentiment was - few were calling for Dr Lebby's removal. X only recently started to imo only because he got wind of it from loose-lipped Marcelli. And Marcelli knew he had to bring in someone with a good reputation or it just wasn't going to fly with shareholders since Michael was still held in very high esteem.
