Sanifi is approved and can produce in the US but elects not to,.Sani stopped shipments in 2012 due to quality issues, but was planned to come back, It was not until late 2016 that they shut down BCG completely.

From 2012 to 2017 Merck had no reason to build a new facility to handle the demand as they would reasonably assume Sani would be online before they could complete it.

So now you are talking about a large company taking a few years to make a decision on expanding production of what had clearly been a marginal product. Gee, what a conspiracy.
