Such is the dilemma tied to selling. I always tell people, buying isn't the hard part, knowing when to sell is. Back in the old days (pre Covid), I'd happily take my 30% and move on to the next play, but with all this extra cash in the world, there is no rhyme nor reason. It's the game of Politicians wanting us all to feel rich vs actually being rich. I've had people ask me how much I think they need to retire, and the true answer is..."who knows??"
Anyway, you talk about watching profits evaporate vs missing out.....Always the great question. Greed vs safety. Everyone wants safety until greed is an option. (I kinda like that quote!)
I was a genius selling SMCI near $500 until it went to $1000! Which is why I try to typically never look back. So, here's the bottom line question.....over the history of the stock market, what percentage of investments have had the ability to earn you a 400% return? (not to mention, within a year or two). How in the world do you sell those stocks? The historical return on the S&P 500 is around 10%...I mean, we're talking just going back a mere 100 years.....but to get there, you need some out of range years and while locking in profit is the way of your Dad, does it still make sense when the market rises and falls on everything except earnings? These are crazy times. Athletes are taking their entire contracts in Bitcoin and Bitcoin is really just imaginary.
I'm rambling here, but I'm perplexed. I need to find some new stocks right now to put money into, and I haven't a clue as to our real future OR if this is the right time to do so. In a world where the stock market is a carnival, when does the merry go round stop?
Just my opinion, of course.
