Where does the $5 million spent on research and development each year go?

Mostly salaries & benefits of the scientific staff, cost to produce ongoing analytics, going to congresses, patent work, regulatory compliance, etc.

A lot goes into the R&D line.

Honestly, they spend very little on R&D. And it's come down almost every year since 2013, other than a few blips during Reduce-It, etc.
