I don't know what people mean when they talk about "elitists". I think for at least some, it's equivalent to "snobs". Of course Trump and his family members are both elite and snobbish, though they don't really have anything to be snobbish about. But there was no one at the top of this race who wasn't "elite".

So the term does not seem to me to be helpful.

And while Maureen Dowd was from a middle class background, she's now, by virtue of her education and work, elite. All of us here are probably from middle class backgrounds.
