I went looking for what people were saying four years ago at this time of night. This is from me, at 1:51 a.m., to Susie. It's surprisingly like what we've all been talking about this year:

I'm sure everyone is. But let's remember two things:

1. Dems were too enthusiastic. Initially, we thought Biden could win if he just got back Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. And, to its credit, the Biden campaign stuck to that.

Everyone else suddenly started dreaming. Florida! Even Texas!! Iowa!! Georgia!! I never thought Florida would happen. Pretty much no one thought the Dems could win Texas till about ten days ago.

2. Remember 2018. On the night, we were all disappointed. No Blue Wave, we thought. But there was a Blue Wave. We just didn't realize it till later.

I don't remember anyone imagining we might with Florida or Texas in 2020. But I guess we did. And we imagined the same thing again this year.
