Fort Ticonderoga and the Lake George area is very beautiful.
The Fort was captured from the British in the Revolutionary War by Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys.
Doing the impossible, that winter Colonel Knox moved the cannon through the wilderness by building roads through to Boston 200 miles away. General Washington put the cannon on Dorchester Heights overnight like was done at Bunker Hill to surprise the British. A few lobed shells resulted in an agreement that the British left Boston without damage and Washington didn't bombard them and their ships.
That was March 17th, a Boston holiday to this day although it was a good reason for Boston politicians to celebrate St. Patrick's Day also.
