The Salt Water (or any contaminated water) gets into the battery management system (BMS) and causes a runaway discharge. This causes the batteries to expand, explode and in some cases expose the Lithium inside. If you remember science class where they dropped sodium metal into water to show its explosive oxidation. Lithium reacts the same way when exposed to water. Will solid state batteries respond the same way? Unless they find a way to make the batteries waterproof and vent at the same time ut will continue to happen. Having said that solid state batteries may be more resistant I'm just not that familiar with their make up.
