TRUE! Anthony Yu’s interview told us much about the development of photonics within Global Foundries and in general. He said:

- some things must still be done manually (which I am convinced are fiber interconnects).

- volumes are laughably small relative to traditional chip runs.

- the coming speeds in photonics will be jaw dropping.

Take aways from Anthony Yu’s remarks:

1. This is a very, very nascent technology/ commercial endeavor with no volume . . . yet. This will change.

2. There are some remaining hurdles before PICs can scale. (ie. manual interconnects).

3. Performance is off the charts.

Inferences an investor could make -

This is going to be a slow rollout of a commercial product that will begin with a demonstration of EOP capability with the highest probability being a pluggable transceiver. (via Andy at Arista).

The commercial ramp will be long and fitful with early adopters leading the way.

Hurdles will be overcome along the way.

The ramp will be slow initially then hit a an inflection point that will be ridiculous.

Photonics will become a major hot space (still nascent and in development ) for big investment.

Big tech can talk a big game of innovation but in the end they want high reliability in their data centers.
