I see it like this: The immediate effect of issuing new shares reduces your percentage of ownership in the company, ie. dilutes your holdings. What happens to share price in near term is almost always negative. Longer term, the company may do well directly as a result of the cash infusion, and the value of your reduced ownership may rise substantially. Your position is remains diluted, however, as you still own a smaller percentage of the company because of the new shares.
