Epadel is not explicitly approved for a cardiovascular (CV) indication in Japan. However, it is approved for the treatment of hyperlipidemia, which is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
Epadel, a prescription omega-3 fatty acid product containing highly purified eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) ethyl ester, was approved in Japan more than two decades ago. Its primary indications are:
Treatment of hyperlipidemia
Improvement of ulcer, pain, and cold feeling associated with arteriosclerosis obliterans
While Epadel does not have a specific cardiovascular indication, its use in managing hyperlipidemia indirectly contributes to cardiovascular health. The Japan EPA Lipid Intervention Study (JELIS) demonstrated that Epadel, when added to statin therapy, significantly reduced the risk of major coronary events by 19% compared to statin therapy alone in Japanese patients with hypercholesterolemia.
It's worth noting that Epadel is recommended as a pharmaceutical treatment in various guidelines of The Japanese Circulation Society for primary prevention in high-risk patients. This recommendation, along with its proven effects on lipid profiles and the results of the JELIS study, suggests that while Epadel is not explicitly approved for a CV indication, it is recognized for its potential cardiovascular benefits in the context of hyperlipidemia management in Japan.

There are a lot of wealthy people in China . The same Chinese who pay for New Zealand grass feed , free range cows milk baby powder will also pay for Epadel and Vascepa without govt reimbursement . Epadel will probably be cheaper .

The vast majority of Chinese CAD patients will not be paying for ...or covered for ...Epadel or Vazkepa
