I’ve been feeling for some time that when the business/investing press is at a peak of positivity on an investment this tends to precede a period of share price declines.

I have a painful memory from AT&T investment back when AT&T did the deal with John Malone and then offered us employees the “gift” of participating in an offering of the new wireless business shares. Not long after the peak excitement news and media hoopla, our T shares started tumbling and eventually wiped out about 65% of my overly concentrated portfolio by the time I threw in the towel and moved what was left of my portfolio.

That experience sensitized me regarding that possibly the smart money big dogs make it such that us retail investors will buy up what they’re trying to unload by helping to spread the bull case.
