I think one needs to remember that corporations are not for people, although mitch the turtle believes they are for donation purposes, but corps have always told us what we think we want then take other stuff away to have their way.
People aren't using credit based on their own full choice. Other forms of payment are being forced on citizens. It's all about owning our debt.
The banks have been charging everyone they can for bounced checks, the store and the writer get fleeced with fees.
Every time a check bounced at a gas station I worked at years ago, the bank charged the station a fee while at the same time charging their account customer fees for overdraft plus a bounced check fee. So, of course places of business don't want to take checks. Thing is in most cases if the gas clerk had been checking ID correctly and attentively, a lot of it would be stopped at the pay window. Of course if crook has fake ID, there's not much you can do.
Credit cards make immense obscene money on late fees as well as retail business fees just to use the card or any transaction. Pres Biden actually has been trying to pass credit company fee regulations. I think he passed a bill to lower late fees perhaps.
Basically it's not the citizen choosing the transaction type, it's the corporations telling us it's good for us to use credit.
