I held TIAA-CREF funds until recently. They changed management (brought in a guy from Merrill-Lynch), raised the expenses, reduced customer service, and performance of the funds has suffered as well. The difference in performance has been so great I withdrew all my funds and started an account with T. Rowe Price.

The expense ratio of the TRP Fund I switched into is lower than TIAA's.

TIAA's previous major advantage had been expense ratios; now they are no longer the lowest. Years ago I chose it over TRP and it turned out not to be the best choice.
