I'm happy you're Canadian, nice to meet an acquaintance.
However, the government didn't buy the pipeline to save the project.
The government created the problem in the first place.
The dinosaur narrative that we are all being fed is a lie to promote scarcity. Crude oil is a replenishing resource. Crude is not a product of decaying dinosaurs lol.
ICE vehicles, "for the general public's" use will shrink along with the vehicle manufacturers, some will bankrupt themselves in the process but ICE will never go away.
Diesel / crude will always be required. The more minerals that are required to be mined, the more combustion engines will be around.
Electric motors while ridiculously powerful, require a constant & very large source of energy.
The green push will require more fossil fuels not less, that is being proven right now in real time. Same goes for unreliable wind turbines & solar panels, they can not exist without crude oil.
The sun doesn't shine at night & the wind doesn't always blow. Solar panels don't produce anything when they're covered with snow, I saw that first hand this weekend past. An entire solar farm up by Balsam Lake covered in snow - zero output.
Electric is a step, a temporary step, but it is not the final answer.
If someone could make an engine / motor / vehicle that has a low carbon foot print to make and produces zero emissions when it drives, that will be the future.
Right now, the carbon foot print is larger than an ICE vehicle. The range is fine if you're just driving normally.
Anything that requires load, trailer, boat, etc. An EV becomes a joke.
Tire production to support the weight of EV vehicles, battery life, driving range, charging infrastructure, vehicle accident repair or discard cost of EVs, the issues with battery fires & putting them out, the pollution that alone causes, etc.
There are so many issues, full electric is temporary. It's a step but not the final answer.
