Trump was always personally relatively soft on abortion compared to his supporters, that could be one reason why he personally isn't being hit as hard as others by the abortion issue. Imo, he went after Roe for basically political gain and he is spruiking softer positions on it now again for purely political gain. Can't trust a word he says. I'm feeling that gives even more weight to the criticism of the NYT mentioned here ..

I also don't see it as a renouncement of the Times. It's just a fair expression of concern the Times should be very careful about giving credence to Trump on any particular issue since the danger he represents is so much bigger than any one issue.
