Donepezil (Aricept) was well tolerated, with most adverse events (AEs) considered to be related to the study drug being cholinergic, transient, and mild-to-moderate in severity. However, dose titration may reduce the development of side effects with the higher dose.

How do you titrate donepezil?
Recommended titration rate:
A dose of 10 mg once a day can be administered after patients have been on a daily dose of 5 mg for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
A dose of 23 mg once a day can be administered after patients have been on a dose of 10 mg once daily for at least 3 months.
