Obviously in hindsight giving him control of the whole company was probably a really bad idea. But the options stunk he was not going to get any board seats.Or he put up people who he knew would get shot down. The only other option was sticking with the current managment who I guess at least kept the stock price higher but otherwise were pretty bad. I bet he wants to take this private and the longer he can keep the stock price in the gutter the better his chances of getting retail to agree to a low price. I do now think he is trying to keep the price low no doubt.
