The diagnosis comes with a truly bleak prognosis as the average glioblastoma survival time is 12-18 months – only 25% of patients survive more than one year and just 5% of patients survive more than five years.
"Post surgery we found out that there's a vaccine called DCVAX-L available but not currently on the NHS only privately. However, the vaccine is expensive, costing between £150,000-£250,000, but his friends and family decided that we need to get this for Luke which could extend his time with us.
"If the vaccine doesn't become an option then the funds will be used for bucket list experiences. Surprisingly he is in good form and knows the odds and what he's facing. He's trying to keep upbeat but obviously the treatment is taking its toll on him and leaves him feeling nauseous and tired at times."
