Doc,
Don't overestimate the impact of the DCVax's on big pharma. It may be true that the DCVax's could eliminate the use of certain products, but on the other hand it may very well result in far greater use of many other products. Remember, our vaccines are aimed at cancer. If patients with cancers live longer, or best case are cured, do you think they'll stop using products made by BP for all sorts of other conditions, I don't.
A patient who passes on after months to a few years never utilizes another product from the BP's at all, if they live for many more years, decades, then they'll be buying a lot of their products. The DCVax's are only a threat to products not needed when they're administered, but they could be a boon to others that work with them and may continue to be given with them as long as their oncologists believe they're of benefit.
My Dr. and I have pretty much decided that I'll go off chemo when I see him again if all is well at that time. Nothing is absolutely certain, but normally it's done at 5 years after stem cells, I've gone longer because my numbers weren't perfectly flat before the stem cell transfusion, but he feels I can go off and be monitored a little more closely. If any blasts are detected it's back on the chemo, and hopefully that's all for the remainder of my life. I suspect that much the same will apply to DCVax patients if nothing can be found after a substantial period of time, some vaccine may still be available, but the choice will be made to hold it and monitor if anything bad is happening.
BP's might certainly want to get into the act, NWBO may partner with one, or more of them, but whether they do, or not, patients living longer will continue to use products from the BP's for the remainder of their lives so it can be a Win-Win situation.
