Why would anyone short or naked short any company? Pure greed!

Isn't that why people go long, too? To make money? Of course it is. But no one buys an overpriced stock hoping to quadruple his investment. By the same token, shorts LOOK for overpriced stocks. They often look for fraudulent companies.

And the pros do very good research.

There is nothing illegal about short selling. And it is not bad for the markets, because it helps keep bubbles from developing.
