B402, Krugman isn't perfect. Free trade is not free. Free trade is not fair. However Krugman does admit when he is wrong. Free trade is freer than trade was before freighters and the internet existed. Free trade is benefits some more than others. Globalization has pulled many from poverty. Very little in our world is perfect. Some individuals come across as seeming to think they themselves are, if not, close to perfect. . Below are some picked out on a "free trade" search wander. In searching for one specific one when it isn't found, still others are good to see again:

Protectionism Made in the USA
By Joseph Stiglitz

April 2002
America's imposition of tariffs on imported steel has been greeted with a howl of protest around the world. But harsh words have not been followed by a strong counter-attack. Now is the time to confront America's hypocrisy, not to bluster.
P - The global financial crisis of 1997/1998 - mismanaged by the IMF, largely at the direction of the US Treasury - led to an increased flow of steel imports. But that is part of the market adjustment process the US trumpets so loudly at other times.

Social Security isn't '21st century slavery'
[...]"I think it was Chris Rock who made fun of the fact, 'Well, it might be Independence Day, but the slaves
weren't free then.' Look at it this way, if America had not become independent, slaves might still be slaves."
P - As a matter of history, that doesn't make any sense at all. If the United States were still under the crown, African Americans might still be slaves? There's no real ambiguity here: the United Kingdom banned slavery in 1833. Parts of Canada ended the slave trade as far back as 1793. The United States didn't end slavery until after the Civil War in 1865.
P - The only way slavery would have continued is if the South had won the Civil War --
and apparently some on the right now believe that wouldn't have been so bad. ..
