Telling 1/2 the population to eat cake for so long comes with
consequences.......
Since at least 1932 the Dems have been more pragmatic both ideologically and pragmatically.

The New Deal to fight the loss of cake from the Great Depression and all of the other 'deals', recovery acts, were needed to emerge from GOP recessions, for example. SS and Medicare were attempts to extend cake eating into old age and cuts to both are in the mutterings of the GOP if not in their political platforms, for another example.

Can't change the past, but ask a dem to be pragmatic, Tribalism just steps up a notch....

Infrastructure and support for science and R&D ARE pragmatic....jobs.

Both historically have flourished mostly under Dem presidents and way back when a former general wanted us to have autobahns. So we got interstates and NASA from one GOP president. Taxes were higher and we built shit.

Our tax system is redistributive and taxes are mostly redistributed from higher GDP states to lower GDP states. Read that as from urban to rural. Look it up.

I'm hard put to find comparable pragmatism from the right. But maybe a GOP Congress riddled with election deniers will surprise us? Nah, I'm going with 'horrify us'.
