No, Peru really is a shit hole country as Donald Trump would like to say!

The U.S. has it's pristine Pacific Coast Hwy. Peru has a Pacific Coast Hwy too and if you take it from Lima to Máncora what stands out the most is that the only breaks in trash lining the road is cross roads that cross the Hwy other than that it is a continual line of trash!

If you take the Hwy from Lima to Tingo Maria, the gateway to the jungle, if you can call it a Hwy, some parts it is a Hwy other parts it are not, the parts that are not feel as if there is no pavement at all. The only place you could drive a sports car and not develop severe rattles are places like San Isidro and Miraflores in Lima and who wants to be confined in that small of an area with an expensive sports car?

As far as being "off the grid", the reason I gave up cell phones is because when I first moved to South America Sept 04 2012, it was Medellin, Colombia and I grew tired of women from Medellin asking me for my cell phone and it was easier for me to tell them, "I don't have cell phone. I do my work as a technical analyst with stocks on my laptop and you're not getting that and the only phone calls I make are to the United States and those are free using Skype!" A lot of gringos who move to South America lose the cell phone and discover it is liberating!
