GPS navigation on phones or in vehicles certainly was a game-changer. In my pursuit, I had an uncool person drop a gps pin on a remote spot on his phone even without cell coverage, as finding it again for him would have been virtually impossible. He did it on the sly as I asked him not to. It cost me thousands of dollars worth of opal. He is an immigrant so I guess I should have sicced covix on him.

Sure makes yard sales and travel easy. There is a location tag on many photographs, which is why I never photograph a find in situ. I have seen people post valuable rock seam photos, and unbeknownst to them, it is easy to find the gps coordinates for many photos, and then they wonder how anyone found their secret treasure.

I quit carrying my phone when out exploring for that very reason, which kind of defeats the purpose of having it (although mostly no cell coverage where I go). I guess I could take the battery out until I need it. (location is still logging even when the phone is turned off, which makes apprehending stupid criminals easy)
