I know in my lifetime; I could get on any Interstate Road and just travel with confidence.
When I grew up, I learned to drive on Route 6 and Route 9 in New York. I lived on those roads, and when you drove at night, the lights from oncoming traffic nearly blinded me.
Between potholes, and just road maintenance I was forever getting a front-end alignment and new tires. When you are a teenager, this is a cost you did not plan on.
But once I started driving long distance on the Interstate, I could put the miles on a car and not worry like I use to do. I also learned that the maps I once needed, and we all had those Rand McNalley maps., were almost a thing of the past. Sure, they still came in handy, but now I just needed a quick glance and could see that once you were on the Interstate, the road would tell you where to go.
Even better, there were gas stations along the way, and places to eat and sleep. Traveling became so much easier.
