that Brian Cashman inherited the "Core Four" plus Bernie Williams from Bob Watson and Gene Michaels.
Correct and the 4 were all home grown and came up through the Yankee farm system. Got to see all 4 play here in Greensboro when they were with the Hornets the Yankees single A team. Don't forget Posada who also played with the Hornets.
They played at the oldest minor league park in the country. It broke my heart when Steinbrenner got PO'd because Greensboro wouldn't build a new ball park for the Yankees and pulled the team.
IN 2000 I actually ran for city council in High Point on a campaign of HP building a new ball park to steal the team away from Greensboro. The local paper thought I was nuts and endorsed the guy I ran against.
Flash forward and Greensboro ended up building a new stadium and got the Marlins single A team (I did see Stanton and Ichiro play an exhibition game there) Winston Salem the 3rd city in the Triad then built their own minor league park (Winston Salem Dash) and finally High Point got their head in the game and built Truist Park which is home to the High Point Rockers, which are part of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, a "partner league" of Major League Baseball.
