Here is a video demonstrating how mRNA vaccines work against viruses. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRNA_vaccine

A company called Argos was unsuccessful in making MRNA cancer vaccines efficacious. If memory served, they used electrophoresis to transport the encoded molecules into DCs. Moderna may suffer the same fate as Argos, but they are likely much better prepared to translate tumor material into accurate encoding instructions.

Cancer is almost always more difficult to treat than viruses, because by the time they are detected, they’ve already “evolved” through a form of natural selection within the immune system to “escape” various forms of attack. They are also heterogeneous and even if you identify some antigen markers, other tumor cells without those markers displayed can escape. Some tumor cells don’t even display critical markers. I wish Moderna much luck.
