It is index funds simply balancing out their share inventory. And even managed mutual funds. If you’ve ever cashed out of a mutual fund you know that you get whatever the value is at the close of trading that day. They enter an MOC order to cover the net purchases/withdrawals for the day. The funds don’t care what happens to the intraday price during the day and at the close, they are protected because whatever the price is, that’s what its investors get.
