Republicans have gone so far right they are running out of room to move. It's a thing to say they don't have policies so they have created a culture war, but they do have policies. Tried and true failed ones as "trickle down" and more extreme ones on abortion.

Perhaps my comment that Maher is smug was unfair, dunno. It's just a sense, but for mine he - at least now - seems a conservative leaning libertarian (so many seem to be these days it feels almost a fad). His rather superficial exploitation of the concepts of woke and now presentism (totally new to me so i've spent some time on it today) would appeal to conservatives as conix. His Portland effort in that video was off-the-mark, i'm guessing. Unfairly and misleadingly off the mark. And for a wider audience, maybe. Sure there is legit criticism for some there, still his comedy misses something.
