When investors claim to top benchmarks for extended periods I always devote "space in my head" to seeing what I can learn. It's similar to Buffett making his famous winning $1 million bet with a hedge fund. Around 1990, I tracked John Bogle's newfangled index fund for several years before putting money in it.

"It's vital that investors understand why almost all stock investors, including professionals, lag the major indexes."
