To clarify I believe, everything you people are discussing are called bundled services.
Providers have always split things up to double and triple dip.
They still even split 'high def' with 720p and 1080p being called levels of high def when they are really both high def broadcasts. 480i/p still being called standard.

It's a scam. With the three big providers in my area, nothing is free, it's either internet alone, phone alone or both bundled. Of course they offered deals, one year only.

I was at the meetings years ago when the industry agreed that 100 per month will be the bottom standard per customer they will work together to accomplish. They have surpassed their wildest dreams.

My internet only provider started at 49. full rate no teaser and now its up to 79. in 4 years. No announcements of raises, just doing them. I don't think any of them even give a year specials anymore. My twice monthly spam snail mail has 3 month and 6 month offers for bundles for like 59.99- int and tv and then instantly becomes 125. after 3 or 6 months. Such a deal..
