I have a 10 year old grandson who has been so thoroughly "trained" in shooter drills that when he visited, I was going to show him some guns that I inherited and he will, too, eventually, if he is interested. When I came into the parlor with my grandfathers double barrelled shotgun, he dove behind the couch. I wanted to teach him respect for them, but he is so afraid of them now that it will probably take a long time, if ever, to get him to be proficient with even a BB gun. I am not okay with that. When we did nuke drills in the 60's, we just viewed them as a fortunate way to get to go home early, they instilled no fear as I recall. But holy cow, their methods of teaching shooter drills are causing true fear of any guns. He can play video games and blast everything with glee, but show him a real gun and he goes on full negative alert. All because of the goddam assault rifles and the image they project of being an armed superman. They don't sell them here, but an hour's drive away and they practically give them as premiums when you get gas. consistent laws are needed, as we have the same problem as chicago; adopting sensible restrictions are not very meaningful if they can be circumvented so easily.
