In military school, same thing, we wore those little medals proudly, one marksman badge, followed by little attached plagues. I also qualified with the carbine, and my M-1 Garand, loved them both, we marched with the Garand, but that Carbine was a fun weapon to use.

We also had to qualify with the 45. We had to assemble and take them apart in a smartly fashion, otherwise you did a punishment tour, like running with your rifle. Everyone was good at it, it was just part of military school.
