I grew up in Pittsburgh.
At my junior high school, The basement, which was a fallout shelter, was also a rifle range, where after school, the rifle club would shoot .22s to qualify for NRA badges. Promarksman, marksman, sharpshooter etc.. it was to teach us firearm respect, handling, and safety, well before assault weapon popularity.
