YES, that is why Vioxx and Celebrex were pulled (well, Celebrex is still sold butt it has a very small market compared to what it used to have).

IIRC, Vioxx and Celebrex were, at the time, the most prescribed drugs. Then the data came in that these COX-2 selective inhibitors were increasing heart attack/disease risk.

So Vioxx was pulled and Celebrex is nott prescribed much anymore.

Aspirin and ibuprofen inhibit both COX-1 and COX-2 (and aspirin does a lot more stuff too, but that is ~OUTTside the issue at bar).

We are now finding that some of the oldest drugs - aspirin and metformin - do many beneficial amazing things besides what they were originally identified to do. Metformin may be the first anti-aging drug (reduces aging). And we still do nott know exactly how metformin works - it has several different mechanisms and targets which may account for its utility in treating diabetes. And, like aspirin, it is old and easy to make which means it is cheap. Dirt cheap. We have AFAIK no fricken idea how it may exert anti-senescence effects that statisticians/epidemiologists have noted and which can be separated from its antidiabetic effects.
