Winter colds have more to do with temperature than anything else.

A whole lot biochemistry and reaction rate stuff changes with temperature. Flu virus takes advantage of it...

Social distancing, masks, etc, cut the flu rate the last 2 years to almost nothing.

So there are two factors, ambient Temperature and proximity to infected people who are contagious...
