My mother and I noticed that when my family lived in "the north country" aka northern NY near Canada border, there seemed to be a recurring respiratory infection among the whole area--my family included--, we concluded this was a problem stemming from the prisons, and maybe also the large amount of dairy farms. However my reasoning for it seeming to come back to everyone throughout the year, was that the disjointedness and distance between the towns and communities helped to further the mutation of this "north country cough".

It seemed like there was almost more contagious illnesses in the rural area we lived in, whereas the more populated suburban had it's infections as well, yet they seemed to come around less frequently, not year-round and affecting most people at one time.

It is very interesting, the theories of epidemiology. I will admit I have 0 formal education in the study and all my aforementioned reasonings are anecdotal. If anyone is studied or has any links to related studies that expand or disprove my claims I would be happy to check it out.
