And don't forget that Topol used that AGIX article at the time to slap Nissen publicly as Nissen was involved with AGIX. Nissen was Topol's only competition for the cardiology fiefdom at Cleveland Clinic.

In addition to Nissen, Topol's ego had always clashed with Cosgrove, the CEO of the Cleveland Clinic. Cosgrove used the Merck situation as an opportunity to drive Topol out. Of course, Cosgrove has his own conflict issues (read below). It was all quite laughable. Most of my friends who were at the Clinic at the time were laughing at the kettle calling the pot black.
