Topol lost his title because a hedge fund implied in their marketing material he fed them information that caused them to be short Merck into the Vioxx scandal. The reason that hedge fund asked him to be on their advisory board was because he had published articles two years prior saying Vioxx should never have been improved.

Topol's arrogant personality turned a lot of people off and they took the appearance of impropriety as an opporuntity to screw him.
