Nope - in Canada you take french in Junior High and optional in High school. But we now have french only schools and french Immersion in englich schools. I had one child take it for grad 6-9. she has never used it and just started teaching. Frankly the whole french immersion thing seemed to be more of a status game played by parents. Some would argue you actually do not get as good an education as one of my friends says who is a principal - others say it is great.
