I had a very good Thanksgiving as I went to my son's who just moved back into town. I'm lucky as it takes 5 minutes to drive to my son's and 15 minutes to drive to my daughter's.

There might be some little flicker of light at the end of the tunnel as rural wifi and internet will open it up for youngsters who want to live in the country and work from their homes. Housing costs in the city and suburbs where I live are pretty high. An acre of land goes for close to 400K and we have 2 acre zoning unless grandfathered in. Consequently we have many knockdowns. A typical house in town will go for over 600K but some McMansions go well over 2 million. With these costs people are realizing that one can get much more for your money in areas that also spend on education. We have several in MA in the western part of the state and outside rt495.

I realize MA is different from WV as our industries are different. We have little agriculture, and close to zero natural resources other than the fishing industry which is getting smaller and smaller. We are big in medical, education, finance, biotechnology, technology. But we have gone through several changes and have always adapted because we have a highly educated population. I notice all the struggling states have never valued education and that's maybe because in the past the land provided a decent living. We have never had that luxury in MA so maybe if these states focused more on education they wouldn't be so resentful of people who are educated. Most major cities have poor people who work more than 1 job to survive and they have lot's of undocumented workers who work very hard. They and their children are surrounded by very successful people and lot's of things to do. That's what they want and many realize they have to work hard to get it. Others have problems and face a lifetime of problems but education is the key.

I'm sorry about your son and the opioid and drug crises as I'm furious the Sacklers are not in prison.
