50 million barrels represents 2.5 days and it is released over about 12 days as the reserves can only release 4.4 million barrels per day. It will and already has done nothing to the price of oil. The other countries have released even less than we have per capita. We are being held hostage by the oil producers. Just because we release oil does not mean it's going to be refined as the oil companies can increase their oil inventories as they have far more capacity that our strategic reserves. We also must consider then the inventories of actual gas. This is just a symbolic move and unless we start building more refineries this will happen over and over again.
