Yes mRNA is considered genetic material.

The genetic code is the set of rules used by living cells to translate information encoded within genetic material (DNA or mRNA sequences of nucleotide triplets, or codons) into proteins.


Gene therapy does not alter DNA. It inserts genetic material into cells in a non integrating fashion, without altering DNA.

Gene editing is what you are calling Gene therapy, the alteration of DNA code inside cells.

Different things. Surely this is obvious.

Gene therapy companies use typically AAV to insert non integrating DNA.

Gene editing companies typically use nucleases like CRISPR or zinc fingers to change the DNA code.
