I would also like to think that the Biden administration could turn it around. But I have learned one other thing, every four and eight years America has its elections. Eight years of Clinton, then America went to Bush, and it's foreign policy took a hard turn. Sure we were attacked on 9-11, but the response was totally wrong, and we dragged the world along for the ride.
Then President Obama came into office, and things started looking better, but he still had to deal with two foreign wars. It is not that easy to get out of war. Obama did get out of one, but the other was still there.
Then trump came to office, and America abandoned all of out allies. trump literally just abandoned them in the field. Even worse trump went out of his way to even tell America's long standing allies that they were on their own unless they paid more money.
Now we have President Biden, a politician who at least knows all of the players from his decades of experience. Our allies have come back, but they are still cautious. I would be cautious with any foreign policy going forward. Who knows how American elections will turn in the years ahead.
America is just not steady, trump proved that someone incapable of understanding foreign policy could get elected and just make an easy decision when it came to foreign policy. Foreign policy has many sides to any decision, if you do one thing, you alienate someone else. Even when you make a decision it could take years for it to play out. trump was never capable of understanding treaties between nations, and how countries react to one another.
trump was too simple, he thought everything was simple. He abandoned trade treaties on a whim, and America lost all of that business, then he would alienate China, and learned China could play hard ball, and do it better. Then trump proved America is vulnerable to his many mistakes, and now the republican's are totally lost. So unless the democrats stay in power, no one knows how America will react to any issue involving the world.
