Socialism is NOT the answer. Governments require taxes to operate. To take from those who produce to give to those that do not produce or produce little (include tax contributions).
Sweden was a interesting laboratory on how this worked. As more subsidized programs were introduced, there were less motivated individuals working and more delaying their productive years by taking advantage of subsidized universities and meals. Subsidized student housing etc. Students stayed in college for 10 years--delaying their contributions to taxes--and requiring increases in taxes by the active producers. Taxes went up even more ("fair share") until it unraveled and they were forced to pull back from where they were at--full blown Socialism.
Now we are seeing ourselves going down the road Sweden was on before they corrected from that trend.
Now Biden wants to give free community college even though the student's family is capable of paying their own way (no means testing, in other words). How is that wise? Why not means testing for community college?
Day care? Again--where is the means testing?
Socialism does not work in the long term. And going down the road TOWARDS Socialism is not wise, as per Sweden's experience.
You and I fundamentally disagree. You believe that what is going on with the $3.5 Trillion is good--and not an indication of the US going down that path to Socialism.
I do not agree with you.
The Green New Deal is unwise and is, in effect, regressive on the poor and middle class. The political elites pushing this agenda do not worry about their heating oil costs going up this winter. But the poor will.
And the Progressives' response will be--ANOTHER PROGRAM?
Subsidized heating oil costs for the poor and middle class!!
