Statistics seem to favor of EVs because ICE vehicles vastly outnumber EVs by 10x, are driven and maintained by your average idiot, & are skewed by misleading per mile driven. Not to mention the average ICE vehicle in the US is 11 years old compared to the average EV of like 3.
That's the bigger issue as these relatively new EVs catch fire for no apparent reason. You dont have ICE vehicles combusting like that.

The only real stats ive seen show EVs are 2.5x more likely to catch fire than ICE based on number of ICE fires:ICE vehicles registered compared to EV fires:EV vehicles registered.

Data obtained through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request revealed that in 2019 the London Fire Brigade dealt with 54 electric vehicle fires compared with 1,898 petrol and diesel fires.

Vehicle registration numbers from the Department for Transport (DfT) show there are 50,000-plus plug-in cars licensed in the capital out of a total 4.63 million licensed cars.

Looking at the London Fire Brigade data, that would suggest an incident rate of 0.04% for petrol and diesel car fires, while the rate for plug-in vehicle is more than double at 0.1%. So far this year, there have been 1,021 petrol and diesel fires and 27 EV fires in the capital.


Making EVs 2.5x more likely to catch fire. Not just catch fire while operating but catch fire while parked in your garage.

EV fires are also more dangerous than ICE due to how hot they burn, the toxic gases release, the potential shrapnel, and the risk of it reigniting. They really put on great fireworks display.
