Cosmic rays are not the same as solar storm. Different energy densities but more importantly solar storms come with a greater degree of magnetism with them. Ive noticed more incidences of lithium combustion & tesla solo accidents occur during higher solar wind density more so than speed of the wind.

As to it not causing problems then you'll have to explain why even Obama signed an executive order to prepare the nations energy grid for solar events.
