Vin, polio R factor around 5-7, similar_to_covid_delta_variant.

Iron lungs were very scary things to parents of young children, not quite the same as respirators used for Covid patients whose lungs are too congested or inflamed to inflate, but watching your child have to rely on the variation in air pressure inside a large machine in order to get any oxygen into their lungs is traumatic.

Think of the impact on your life if you had to rely on a mirror to see anything other than the machine that was pumping air in your lungs for you.

Biowatch, yes the severest cases of polio in those who didn't die had a horrifying outcome. I wasn't trying to downplay the severity of polio. I was pointing out that the number of people affected and killed in the US is dwarfed by the number infected, injured and killed by Covid-19. I was pointing out that people need to get vaccinated against Covid just as they were vaccinated against polio.

For some reason some are looking back in history to find some disease they say was worse than Covid to use as a hammer to dismiss or downplay the threat of Covid, whether that is polio, smallpox or the 1918-1919 influenza epidemic. I am surprised that the black death in the middle ages hasn't been brought up to say that Covid isn't that bad. Yes other diseases in the past could be as bad or even worse than Covid. So what? This isn't a contest. Get vaccinated against Covid-19.
